Participant scholarship funding

Scholarship funding will continue to be available for the October 2024 cohort to all teachers and leaders from publicly funded schools and 16 to 19 educational organisations for the following NPQs:

  • NPQ Leading Primary Mathematics
  • NPQ for SENCOs
  • NPQ Headship
  • Early Headship Coaching Offer (for Headteachers in their first 5 years)

Scholarship funding to cover the costs of all other NPQ programmes for October 2024 cohorts may be available to teachers and leaders from:

  • the 50% of schools with the highest proportion of students who attract pupil premium funding
  • 16 to 19 educational settings identified as having high disadvantage
  • For the early years leadership NPQ, highly disadvantaged early years settings will also be eligible.

Please note that your schools' eligibility for scholarship funding is not a guarantee that a scholarship-funded place will be available. Vantage TSH will receive a limited allocation of scholarship funded places for all programmes. These will be allocated on a first-come first-serve basis to suitable and eligible applicants.

DfE targeted support funding:

If you started your course in October 2023 or February 2024, your workplace may have been eligible for funding to support you to do your NPQ. This is called targeted support funding

Targeted support funding is available for smaller schools and primary schools whose NPQ course started in October 2023 or February 2024. This money goes directly to schools to support participants to do an NPQ. It’s not available for the early headship coaching offer.

For each teacher or leader in a state-funded school or state-funded 16-19 organisation who takes an NPQ in 2023/24 academic year, will receive a grant payment of:

  • £200 for state-funded primary schools regardless of size
  • £800 for state-funded primary schools with one to 150 pupils (£600 in addition to the £200 grant payment)
  • £200 for state-funded secondary schools and state-funded 16-19 educational settings with one to 600 pupils.

Read our application guidance - avoid delays with your application

Once you have submitted your expression of interest, we will send a link to our application form and attach application guidance.

We strongly recommend that you read the guidance prior to completing your application.

Complete your NPQ application form

In your application you will need to provide the following information. It is useful to have this to hand in preparation and to avoid any delays.

  • Personal information including your full name, contact details and teacher reference number
  • Details of your sponsor - this should be your Headteacher for all applicants or your Chair of Governors and Chief Executive Officer for existing Headteachers and Trust leaders.
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. We will ask about about your gender and ethnicity and any reasonable adjustments we need to make to ensure you can access and engage with the NPQ programme.
  • Questions about your reason for applying for an NPQ, how you hope it will benefit you and what you know about the course structure.

Final step - register for your NPQ with the DfE

Once you have been notified of your successful application, you MUST register your NPQ with the DfE to secure your place. This is a quick and easy process but failure to complete this step will void your application and you will be unable to join the programme.

When you register with the DfE you will need:

  • Your Teacher Reference Number (TRN)

Deadline for applications: TBC. This will likely be on or around 4th October 2024
